The problem with wood is it rots and splinters. So wood trim can be cladded with aluminum or replaced with vinyl boards. Most windows are vinyl now. These composite deck boards are usually a mixture of plastic and sawdust to make it less slippery. The supporting structure of your deck will still be pressure treated wood, and that won't last past 30 years. But if your deck and railing boards are splitting and your deck structure isn't too old, replacing them with these composites may be a good option. Some brands even have a wood grain texture on them. No care required.

Sometimes I see the composite boards have been installed flush, with no space between them. This means that water and dirt can accumulate and that there will be no room for expansion, which has fractured the board above. Trex requires a 1/4 to 3/8 inch gap.
