This is a 16-year-old deck with one inch wood decking and wood railings. Never seen anything like it! At 15 years the one-inch boards normally need to be replaced. Wood stairs and railings are particularly vulnerable to rot. On this deck these have all been carefully PAINTED, not blown with red stain with the usual overspray on the vinyl siding. Notice the cantilever below has also been neatly painted and looks gorgeous! So, it can be done... Although, at 30 years you can't trust the hangers and joists and piers, no matter what. Yet, what a beautiful middle age!
