A flexible, cheaper alternative to copper was developed in the 80's but it dissolves when in contact with chlorinated water, usually at hot water junctions. There was a class action lawsuit against its manufacturers which has long since been exhausted. There is really no option but to replace any PB pipe in your house. The new PEX is its excellent decedent: which can just be pulled along the old path of the PB pipe.
